End of February check in

I had a few more multi-day stretches of none scraping than I prefer but made up for it with the crop. Still above goal on my page count and there’s always next month to try and get back to daily crafting.

I also have another scout layout to share based on sketch #18 from scrap a sketch

and I'm playing along with the  Love our stash challenge at Lasting Memories:

"Stickers" - Sticker sheets, sticker books, puffy stickers, chipboard stickers - use some stickers on your layout!

I used the Simple Stories "I AM" papers and mixed them with two different sets of fall-themed stickers
I love all the dimensions and texture of mixing chipboard stickers with regular stickers.  I popped up a few of the stickers of foam too

The tag is actually the bottom half of a die-cut that I snipped the decorative flower pattern off.  Flipped it upside down and punched the whole.  Perfect color match to the paper while giving it a masculine makeover.  I really struggled with embellishments at first as I was trying to use the embellishments from the kit.  Unfortunately, they had a more feminine and spiritual feel that didn't jib with the subject of the layout. I honestly paired the photos and paper based on the plaid print and the night colors of the photo.

so glad I decided to dig through my cast-offs one more time to pull out these fun stickers.  I find I go through the coordinating papers for the kits faster than I use the multitude of stickers that come with it.  Anyway, I like how it turned out.  Thanks for stopping by to take a peek

Winter Retreat 2022

I had a fairly productive weekend retreat.  I opted for a attending just for the day on Saturday but my hostess was amazing and asked me back for the remainder of the weekend, so I got in a few more bonus hours to create on Sunday.  Great thing about the location is that it’s 12 miles from home so not spending the night is an easy option.  Fall retreat I’ll be there the whole time, no running home.

Anyway here’s some of what I got done.  Holding a few back for  design team work next month.  Still working through 2020 Boy Scouts but over half done

UYS Birthday challenge

Welcome to challenge #442 at Use Your Stuff.

For this challenge, we are going with the birthday theme as it is our blog host birthday month.

And last month was my 49th birthday.  Along with the traditional homemade cake, my husband and I slipped in overnight at a beach condo in Newport Oregon.  I'll have some pages for that trip coming in the next month or so.  After this layout, I'm shifting my focus to my son's scout album.  The goal for the crop is to get 2020 done.

For my layout I used a little bit more from my Echo Park "Lets Party" TSR kit.  I still haven't killed the kit yet and I think I've got two layouts done with it and possibly enough supplies to do one more and a card.  I just started back up with the scrap room double shot kit club because I'm craving some variety and miss getting new stuff.  I did back off a bit by going with the double shot (two kits) instead of the flavors of the month (four kits) I should be able to use more of the old kits to make room for the new.

I grabbed this sketch from the scrap a sketch group on facebook. I had a couple of oops when trying to outline the layers and had to hide my errant pen strokes with a sticker so it's close but not exactly the same as the sketch.  Plus I rotated it.

Deep in the woods with S.I.T.

I used Sketches in Thyme #504 as the starting point for my layout using CM "Deep in the Woods" collection

I used John Muir quote: Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world"
in place of a title.  I find that I don't title all of my layouts as the photos and journaling usually tell the story well enough. what about you?  Do you title every layout?

I love all the texture the die-cut borders provide and the little extra I got from the vines/ branches cut from the laser-cut photo page. I find that by cutting them apart to my liking I'm more apt to use them.

White Christmas…Almost

Significant snowfall in the Willamette Valley is not super common, especially on Christmas.  We got two days' worth of snow starting on December 26th and carrying on into the next day.  Beautiful but a lot of work as I was out in the greenhouse/ caterpillar tunnel every couple of hours poking at the roof with a broom to keep the snow from accumulating and crushing through the plastic sheeting.
I overworked my pectoral muscles and ended up with costochondritis ( inflammation of the cartilage between the sternum and the rib cage).  I'm still recovering and have just started running again as deep breathing was painful for the last few weeks.
Here's the sketch I used

This is the first go at the sketch

I wasn't sure if I wanted to add a snowflake on top of the patterned paper, but after a few days sitting out in my scrap space I decided to take the dive and add more details

I used navy blue card stock that is similar in color to the second layer of some of the background circles.  Topped it all off with some rhinestones for some extra sparkle

UYS- celebrate Love

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and this week’s challenge at Use Your Stuff is to celebrate love or use hearts in your layout.

I have done both documenting my daughters new puppy.
The paper and embellishments are hearts and my title and subject photos reflect the love theme.
While I do love Pippin enough to create  his jacket from the sleeve of my old fleece jacket I’m also glad to be able to send him home

Pippin is a chihuahua/ pug a.k.a chug and a little ball of energy. The close up is right after his nap so he wasn’t at full speed yet and the other is him snuggling in for the snow day.

I used the sketch as a starting point but went bigger and more photos. No journaling and more embellishments.  That’s the beauty of using sketches.  It just a suggestion

I mixed and matched fonts and embellishments from 3 different sources.  The small glitter hearts are from a kit.  The chunky glitter love and embellishments from a thicker title pack and gold puffy  “puppy” alphas.  I had to cut one of the capital R’s to make a p but it works and I used more of my stash and that’s the whole goal of Use Your Stuff
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you join us for the challenge.

End of month goal check

This year I’ve set a few scrap goals:
15 minutes a day doing something scrappy
Weekly blog post
Use my stash
10 pages a month
So far so good, got my ten page in on the 28th.

Here’s the latest work in progress from a sky by Allison Davis at scrapbook generation.  It’s this months free downloadable sketch
I think I might add snowflakes where the stars are.  Going to let it sit for now.  What do you think?
