Old Fashion Photos

This weeks challenge at lasting memories is to use old fashion photos.

I've been working on my Dad's photo album and have already done his baby pictures so this one is the next oldest in the stack.  It's a school photo from the early 1950's, but if you don't have any old photos you can always take an up to date picture and  turn it sepia or black and white.
The background paper was a little bright so I misted it to get a more faded look.
Then used a second darker blue mist on the heart dollie which double as a mask and embellishment.

Distressed and inked all the edges of the mats
and crumpled the banner to get a softer, worn feel to the layout

I did do some modernizing with the rhinestone bling, metal face plate and chip board arrow.
The thicker stickers were candy cane, but I sanded them and inked them with walnut distress ink

If you like this layout you should check out Creative scrapper Sketch book volume #2
Got to say it really helped having a sketch to follow as I spent most of the day outside in the garden working away and didn't have much time tonight to put my layout together
Hope you can join us this week at lasting memories and stay tuned for the DT announcement

Square photo

I saw an article in get it scrapped this weekend about using square photos"stable but not boring".  I also saw a sketch for nine photos and thought I'd give it a go.  I'm not super happy with the way it came out.  I thought it looked okay with just the grid of pictures, but was too plain and boring and the stickers were calling from my stash to be used so what the heck.  Another page done and some stickers used.
If nothing else I've learned that a page doesn't have to be beautiful to be meaningful as this was the last Christmas that my mother in law was at with all of her boys before her passing.

C.A.S and a DT call at Lasting memories

Lasting memories has decided to add some new talent and creativity to Lasting Memories, so we're running a DT Call this week. What a perfect week to do it because our challenge is "Clean and Simple" aka "CAS".
If you're interested in trying out for our DT, please add DT with your name when you link up (KarenDT). We're looking for 5 new faces to join our team so good luck to everyone.
Here's my clean and simple layout based on this sketch by Liz

I guess I must have spring fever because the color choice is definitely not the traditional Christmas scheme
I'm also entering this layout over at Twisted Tuesdays challenge- Banners and pearls I made the paper clip charm by punching two circles of paper to sandwich the clip.  Then I punched the snowflake in the middle of the blue paper , inked the edge and added the pearl too hide the clip in the middle

The snowflake I punched out of the charm made it down to the bottom of the photo. I added a few more pearls and journaling to finish it off.

Hope you'll be inspired to join us this week.

here's a little more info ont the DT postion

Our challenges go live every Sunday at 8am EST
You will be active in our Yahoo Group, which is where we do all our DT stuff (and chat too!) Comment on entries (we use a commenting system so it's easier)
Commit to 3 weeks per month - if you can't make a week, that's ok, but we ask that you make a post/mention on your blog letting your readers know of our challenges

Taking a creative break

My mother in law passed away this past Thursday, so all creative efforts are being diverted to making memory boards.  I'll be back soon, but in the mean time here's a LO I  did for pack 52 silent auction using a weekly sketch from Scrapy Sketches

Here's what the display looked like
I used K and Company traditional paper pack and die cuts

The winning bid was from the pack leader- Donnita
and I'm not sure what we will be working on exactly, but I wanted the attendees to get an idea of what we could do with the scout theme

I still have this LO and if Donnita goes with pages for her youngest baby album, then I'm going to use this page for my son's first scout photos.  So you may see it again in a few years as he's not even 5 yet.  My husband has been volunteering with the Pack since the start of this school year and is anxiously awaiting Eric's turn in scouting

See you back here soon

Sketch in Thyme #105

You might not see this one posted on S.I.T this week as I just finished it and the deadline was to have it in today and I know Tiffany is probably headed to bed as I write this being on the opposite coast and all.  So here's my take on sketch #105

For my birthday in 2012 we went to the Oregon coast for the weekend and we're lucky to have the moon rise low and large.  All my husband did was have Jessica  pose with her hands cupped and then he lined up the moon to look like she's holding it.  Totally love the effect.
the patterned paper I used is from DCWV "all about boys stack".
I really like the colors and all the stars went with a nighttime LO.

The scalloped edge is just circle punches with a star punched out of the middle
then popped back in on a foam dot for diminsion.

I hope you like my take on the sketch and join us over at Sketch In Thyme

Tag your it

I'm not playing tag as I'm still catching up from Girl scout cookie sales, but will be back with a new layout in the next few days.  In the mean time check out lasting memories Tag challenge where all you have to do is use a tag on your page.
Charity has graciously offered up this great prize package to one lucky winner

Sketches in Thyme GDT

I had the honor of being chosen to be a guest DT for the month of March,
so here's a look at my take of sketch # 104

I created the background paper by misting a chevron mask that I made for another project.
I replaced the solid circle element with bards because I wanted to be able to see the
wonderful spider web PP.

close up of my brad circle.
I drew the circle on the back of the layout.  measured off equal distances and punched through the upper and lower photos open space.  Love how it turned out

Hope your inspired to join us at Sketches in thyme

Craft supply score

Okay so I only made it 3 months into the year with out buying anything new and technically it's not new stuff either as I scored these items at a craft supply sale at the local grange.  Several crafty people got together and cleared out their extra stash to sell.   If I didn't have to drop off cookies to the grange hall for one of my girls to sell then I might not have been tempted.

Who am I kidding I knew the stuff would be there as one of my fellow bloggers had a table set up there.

So this is what I got for $9.75
all this stuff for under $10 not bad
cutest basic gray papers

and a bunch of random stuff.

Some of it was bundles with the paper like a kit for $5

Wish I had more time and money, but I deliberately took just $10 so I would go crazy.

Hopefully this will be my only weak moment this year.  Not sure if I'll make it to NSD hosted by my CM consultant or not

2's company 3's a crowd

No your not crazy. You are seeing this layout again.
I really wanted to enter this in at LCOM, but the DT reveal and the LCOM deadline didn't line up
so as to not reveal the challnge at Lasting memories you'll just have to see it again and of course find out about our 2's company and 3's a crowd challenge over at lasting memories
Use 2 or 3 of anything on your layout

For my 2's:
I have two photos with two subjects in them as well as the
snowflake and Merry Christmas backed by the red stripes.
( it was a square sticker that I punched and cut to get the two pieces)

For my 3's:
I have a three layered snow flake that I cut at 9.5 inches on my cricut
three adhesive pearls, three staples and three colors- red, green and gold

close up of journaling and my colored staple x

I used LCOM sketch # 6 for my layout.
