Just one color at Lasting memories

 

This weeks challenge at lasting memories is to use just one color.

I went with a range of browns.

  I'm not sure that brown really is a color so much as it is a neutral

(At least that's how I have it's categorized in my paper collection)

 

If I haven't mentioned it before I'm a left brained type of girl that likes structure and organization so all my paper is sorted by color and  put in categories such as warm, cool and neutral. 

 

 

I'm again combining my DT layout with the class/ challenge over at Big Picture.

 

For the left brain challenge we are to select products that are neutral or faded in color and embellishments that go with almost anything.

I used  sketch 252 from creative scrapper as my inspiration

 

I used the barn wood paper as my starting point and pulled the browns from it

I hand drew the outline on the letters to make them stand out a little more

most of my embellishments are made from coordinating paper and are just shapes that tend to go with anything, I did add a little sparkle with 3 small brown colored rhinestones.


For the right brain challenge
We were to take a color first approach to creating a page: by obtaining paint swatches (or in my case grabbing a palette from (design-seed) displayed in specific color combinations.  We were also to use the proportions shown and pull papers and embellishments to arrange as we mimic the color proportions.  We could use any combination that make us happy and not have to know what pictures we're going to scrap when we start pulling colors.

I like cool colors and have a closet full of varied blues and green.  So I decide that since it was sunny(1st time in almost a week of rain) and I got to mow the lawn , that I should go with those colors.

I used a large section of yellow, but most of it is hidden by the green so the portions are closer to the inspiration photo on the color palette

I have a 4 yrs. old daughter named Chelsey who is my inspiration! She is my favorite topic to scrapbook and I use her photos all the time. I started scrapbooking three years ago and fell in love with it right away. I am now officially addicted! I scrapbook whenever I feel like it which is a lot. Evens and odds at lasting memories

This weeks challenge at lasting memories is to use

an even number of photos and an odd number of embellishments. 

 

I worked in the requirements of this challenge into my current class challenge at Big Picture.

For the left brain challenge we were to group multiple photos of different sizes and orientations on a layout, kind of like a photo collage.  I didn't create it on the computer and print it as I wanted to use the prints I already have.  To achieve the same effect as having printed a photo collage I just mounted all the photos on to white card stock an left a small border.  

 

I used CM happy birthday stack pack and washi tape

As you can see I have 4 photos (even number) and one pin wheel, one journal card, five pennants for a combined total of three types of embellishments.  Tricky 

these pennants were connected to look like the were sewn onto a piece of twine.  I didn't like the funky angle that it did so I cut and paste the way I wanted it.

 

For the right brain challenge at Big Picture

We were to start with a favorite recent photo, determine the date it was taken, then scramble the numbers to create a new date, select a photo from that date and put them both on the same layout while establishing a connection.

 

This was a bit harder as I usually scrap chronologically so I pulled one from were I'm at in my scrap pile which would be April 2012.  I used a photo of me and my girl friends celebrating April's birthday.   Her actual birth is 4/28 but we went out on the 29th so her sister could come.  Anyway the reconfigured date I came up with was 9/24.  The closest event to this date was Hooky weekend.  It's an adult girl scout camp at the end of September. 

here's my layout with the girl friend connection.  The journaling inside the flower goes like this

"scout friends, work friends, but most of all the best of my girl friends"

Again I used even number of photos and odd embellishments.

This time I did cluster of threes.

  Three buttons, three piece of washi tape, and stitching/ embroidery floss

and of course the single flower frame.

Process- BP right/left brain challenge

Okay so here I go on the second challenge for Big Picture. 

 This time around it's all about creative process. 

Our  left brain challenge from Jennifer was to create a page using 2 star photos in a divider page. 

 If you've been following me since the end of august you'll know that I'm also doing a 50  layout challenge in which I can't spend money on scrap supplies. So what to do.  I mimicked the feel of pocket pages by dividing my photos into columns, using journal tags, and keeping the embellishments to a minimum

 

Now for the right brain challenge by Stacey.

We were supposed to pick a story  and build a layout around it and wait to the end of the creative process to come up with a title. We were also encouraged to create a pocket to put in last minute finds or other things that went along with the story, but do not need to be front and center

I really struggled with this challenge as I like to scrap chronologically and I usually have a title well before the end.  So I cheated a little.  I know that after I did the 4th of July layout that I really wanted to use the tractor photos of my son and his grandfather.  Now for the story.  My son is the 3rd generation to ride on the tractor and soon we'll be living out on the farm too.  So I'm sure that he'll be driving it before long.  Thus the title

I did add a pocket under the title for the more intimate journaling about him being the 3rd generation of tractor drivers in the family

 

the other problem with titling at the end is coming up with a space for it.

I altered red thickers by sanding and painting.  Didn't sand enough off on the K, but pleased with the overall results.

Family vacation at lasting memories

This weeks challenge at lasting memories is all about Family vacations. 

 I'm sure there will be a ton of summer vacation photos shared this week so I decided that I would do something a little less expected for this time of year.  I'm sharing some snowy cabin pictures from our Spring vacation up to our lot in Crescent.

 

Here is a glimpse of our cabin life.

This LO is a 2 pager and I'm revisiting an older sketch to get all the photos on that I wanted.  So if the LO looks familiar it is

I'm using up a bit more of my Rugged paper by CM.  It works so well with the photos of the cabin

peep s'mores.  We went to the cabin for spring/Easter vacation and made s'more with peeps that Uncle Jeff brought up for the kids.  Sent the same photo via cell phone for Auntie Shelly to see.

Bug Eyed Beauty- left Brain challenge

I already shared with you my take on the right brain challenge at Big Picture on Sunday with my Hula girl LO.  Now I'm going to share with you my left brain ideation challenge.

 We were to take a months worth of photos and sort them with 1 to 3 stars.

1 =keep in digital format for file/reference

2=print but not top priority

3= most scrap and tell the story now.

Well I cheated a little  as I used the last group of photos that I printed.  Not quit a months worth, but enough to give the challenge a go.  I had pictures of the cats that I printed and didn't use for the animal antics challenge = 1star, Playground photos when it was sprinkling and 4th of July sparkler photos at 2 stars.

 My three star moment came when I got to the selfies of Danielle with my sunglasses.

  I usually don't prioritize my photos as I mostly  scrap chronologically, however I do curtail my photos based on quality and ability to tell the story. So this challenge wasn't too much of a stretch.

 

I did find creative inspiration for the layout and elements in the two following challenges

All about me

This weeks challenge at lasting memories it's all about you.  So have some fun and show us your serious side, your goofy side and hey, even your "I've had it!" side.

 

Today I'm sharing my Hawaiian Hula girl side.

 

I had a lot of fun with this one, as I'm taking a left brain, right brain challenge class at Big Picture.

According to the cute survey I'm a left brain creature and I believe it as I like structure and am super organized.  Turns out I'm more balanced then I thought though.  52% left, 48% right.

This layout is for the right brain ideation challenge issued by Stacy Julian, were you're supposed to create a LO  of a place that is sparked by patterned paper.  I did however use the pass that Jennifer Wilson gave to lefties, which was that we could pull a few different piece of PP before landing on one.  Good thing as I organize my patterned paper by the predominate color on the page and then store them in rainbow order ( total left brain thing).  I started with my pink/red and went forward till one just jumped at me.

 

The yellow background with the flower reminded me of my favorite flower in Hawaii, the Plumeria

 

from there I went through my pictures and found the one of me in my Hula outfit.  It works well as the tube dress I have on is yellow too.  It's the color of the King Kamehameha.

 

Anyway I had to study state history in 4th grade and then we performed a hula complete with drums and singing.  The other photos in the layout are from the 4 years that I lived on Oahu.

 The Kodak Hawaiian Hula Show and Hanauma Bay.  I love how the challenge allowed me to mix and match times and subjects because they all remind me of Hawaii.

Can't wait to try the left brain ideation challenge next.

 

I used this sketch from sketch week

 

stuck close to the sketch, swapping hearts for flowers

 

I made the flower embellishment by fussy cutting some of the flowers from the middle of the paper.  I knew the cut out would be hidden by the photo placement.  Then backed the two larger flowers with the same card stock that I mated the smaller photos on.  Covered the yellow part of the flower with liquid glass and then added the rhinestone bling when it dried.

Some of the DT sisters at lasting memories are also doing a 50 layout challenge in which we are busting stash.  Most of us have restricted our purchases of crafty stuff until we hit the 50 mark.  We're also encouraging each other and checking in weekly to keep motivated.
  I hope buying the class doesn't count against my no craft purchases.
 If I do every challenge, both left and right I should get 16 LO done in the next 4 weeks

Wednesday update of Animal Antics at lasting memories

 For this weeks challenge we want to see all kinds of animals this week.

 Zoo, pets, other peoples pets...you get the idea! 

 I'm a little behind this week, as I'm still painting at my father in laws cottage.

How ever I do have two different ideas I want to work on tonight after I pick up the latest prints.

 

First off we have a new kitten.  My husband went to an old friends house to get the pressure washer repaired and came back with the cutest black and white kitten.

 or it will be something out in left field as far as the animal thing goes

I did go out in left field to start with this LO of Furries

I was inspiration by this sketch over at Pamela's world of scrap's

I spent a bit of time stitching the title onto the gypsy fonts cut.

This costumed pair showed up at River Road park on our last scheduled day of summer.  They like dressing up and going out to make kids happy.  Funny thing is none of the mom's would let their kids near them.  Some of them even left.

 

okay and for my new fur baby I used the same sketch as above but the 12x24 version.

Kind of feel like this is a cheat page as it's a digital LO from my consultant that I made into a hybrid

So here's the first page.  I added the brackets that I matted on green to make it stand out against the sunset photo.  Also put on the flowers, brads and paper.

Tale Tales at lasting memories

This weeks challenge at lasting memories were asking you to tell us a tall tale, fib or fish story.

 

My tall tale is kind of a wild one as you can see by my layout.

The kids were playing with the settings on the I pad camera and I ended up with a bunch of thermal images of them.

" Only once in a blue moon will you get a story as good as this.

My children claim to have seen an alien spaceship while lying out in the backyard watching the blue moon rise.  Second time this summer that they've claimed to see one.  It must be the mother ship coming back for them.  These photos were taken earlier in the day of the second sighting.  What are the odds that they would change the camera setting to thermal?"

  I used the rocket from boys will be boys cartridge and the alien is actually a cut from the robotz cartridge.  I cut off the lower portion of its body and stuck it into the window of the rocket.

Also added some red pearls and black glitter glue for the details
