Zombies with a sketch

 

I found this sketch over at Sketch Savvy created by Susan Stingerfellow.

The sketch is used in a larger kit community Sketchy Thursday at Scraptastic Club blog.

I'm not a member and probably won't be for a while as I am stash busting, but couldn't help but use the sketch for inspiration for my zombie creation.

 

 

 Here's the sketch

 

Stayed pretty true to the sketch other then swapping snowflakes for tombstones.

I used the outline of the tombstone die cut sticker above to create a paper version for under the title. I just peeled the sticky surrounding of the backing and adhered to my purple paper and cut close to the edge of the die cut sticker edge.

 

 

Cut the word Zombies from the same paper I matted the photos on and inked.

two page layout from Stick it Down Janurary

Finally cleared off the Pine wood Derby mess on my craft table and got a layout done. 

Starting to get back into the crafty groove.  Yeah! 

 Doesn't hurt to have a little sketch help too. 

 I used this two page layout from Stick it Down as my inspiration

 

 

Here's my take

I stayed pretty true to the sketch only switching the direction of the flags/ banners on the lower right hand side of the layout and I used two photos aligned and matted as a single photo to fill the vertical photo in the sketch.

broke out the paper stash.  The base orange and green are old Close to my heart paper from early 2000.  Mixed in some random Halloween Paper and Cm Hocus Pocus paper and die stickers.

Also busted out the leaves and rhinestones.

The numeral stickers are thickers "bewitched"  totally appropriate for a pumpkin carving page.

 

Love the sparkle and texture the silk leaves add to the page and I'm using up the stack I have.

Hijacked

My crafting space was finally coming together and my husband hijacked it for pine wood derby car making

January single page sketch from Stick it Down

 

Did you know that Stick it Down has a new format?  You now have the full month to play along! I used their single layout as interpretations for the layout that I created on retreat.

 

 

 

Here's my take

 

 

 I flipped the large embellishment to the right side of the layout

and journaled in the border space. The gray cardstock I cut as a frame and inked the inner and outer edges with brown chalk ink to bring some more brown into the layout so that the football didn't pop out as much.  Did a few hand doodled stiches on the ball to tone down the white stripe.

 

Funny thing about this layout is that my husband thought it would be cool to go to the Oregon vs. Colorado game with my brother and sister in law as I'm a Colorado grad and he's an Oregon grad.  I hadn't been to a game since 1995, the same year that Colorado and Oregon played in the Cotton Bowl.   If you look closely you'll notice that the Quarter back is Oregon's Heisman trophy winner Marcus Mariota from 2 years ago. 

Too bad Oregon lost the National championship title game the day after I made this.

Page 9

Just about finished off a pack of CM Birthday stickers.

I've been trying really hard to stash bash what I have left from the move. 

I did a huge purge of stuff last summer so I won't have to move it.

Now 'm working through the stuff I thought I needed to keep. Only bought one pack of new paper at the retreat but otherwise I'm right on target.

 

Page 10 &11

My second two pager of the year.

My girl friend from San Francisco visited us in late September of 2012

 and I thought the fall colors a natural choice for the layout 

Cut the star from cast of paper and used the felt flowers from my newly organized stash.

Along with my all time favorite bling swirls.

finished up this last layout before heading home. 

 I thought it was fitting as the layout has a picture of  the Oregon Ducks quarter back and Heisman trophy winner Marcus Mariota.  Too bad they didn't win the game the next day.  I'm showcasing this layout over at Stick it down as well.

So here we go with pages 4-8

 

Page 4&5

My first two page spread of the year.  The color is a little off in the photo as the paper is a bit more pink then orange, but oh well.  You get the idea

The whole layout was base around using this border. I choice the ginger bread man boarder because of the game pieces in Candy Land and it was a way to win more prizes from my consultant. 

 Easier said then done as I wanted to go more with the bright colors in the cake but settled for using the Parfait paper pack that I've had forever.

I knew I wanted to use the rubber duck die cuts that I inherited from my Aunt Diane,

 so I worked from the ducks out to set up the layout. 

 I played with several layouts before coming up with this one as I  wanted to make it feel as if they were floating across the page. 

 Got the desired effect by adding the stripe of blue paper to mimic water



Some pages...Finally

I got to head to the Mountains for a weekend scrap retreat.

Spent last Friday- Sunday at McKenzie River Mountain Resort. Just what I needed to jump start the scrapping again.  I cranked out over 112 pages.  Although 90 of them required little effort as they were mostly kids artwork and report cards that I stuck into there school albums.  Friday 3-11pm was spent on the 4 kids school albums.  ( Caught up and current for now).

Thought about trying to be the last one up for a shoot at my consultants special prize drawing, but only lasted till 1am.  Turns out the last ladies in the room stayed till 5:30am

 

Saturday and Sunday I spent on the other 12 pages.

 

Saturdays page count was 10 in 16hrs.  Not a great average as I was dealing with stupid Girl Scout cookie issues via text as well as having to have my daughters search the scrapbook I left at home to make sure I wasn't duplicating any pages.  That's what happens when you take a long break from scrapping.  Could have sworn I finished off 2012, but no just jumped from Summer to late Fall/ Christmas.  Probably because of the challenge class I did way back when as I usually scrap in chronological order.

 

So here is the first 4 that I did on retreat;

 

Page #1

Totally love the colors of the "Strut your Stuff" paper pack from CM

I mixed and matched a few elements from my spring scrap score from the local grange art sale.

The heart is a brad I picked up along with the pre threaded buttons. 

Used a little scrap paper from the pack to make the ribbons and found a spot for one last little photo from my daughters hike with her Great Aunt Diane.

More of the Strut your stuff paper and a mix of embellies.

So glad I spent the early part of my morning sorting my stash as I almost forgot about the brads, buttons, flowers, felt and paper I had stashed in the cropper hopper case I scored this spring.

The alpha are thicker " candy cane that I sanded leaving just the edge of color.

 

So that's it for now. 

 I'll work on the next round of 4 pages for another post as this one is getting rather long.

 

Crafty endeavors

Wow has it been a long time since I last posted to the blog.

I've been a bit busy with setting up the new house, but have managed to squeeze in a few crafty projects around the house to fill the scrapping void

 

First up is the tile backsplash project. 

 

 Started it right before my mom came to visit for Christmas.

Nothing like hosting Christmas dinner to light a fire

We have since grouted and caulked the project and only need to finish up a small section of caulk.

 

Next was some custom window valences

I used  my mother in laws  table cloth and scraps of fabric

 

Last up but not really the last project is the curtains for my craft table

The craft room/ Den is still a work in progress. 

I was fortunate to lay claim to the old work bench from the garage to be my new craft table.

 I just needed away to hide the mess under it

I attached the curtain to the back side of the drawer with staples

The rest of the curtains are hung on a line using eye hooks.

Easy access but able to hide away the crafty goodies too.
