UIT use scraps

It's time to pull out all of those scraps, little bits and random shapes that you've been holding onto in hopes of using on a future project. If your like me then you'll have tons to choose from.  (If I haven't mentioned it before I have a bit of a paper collection.) So this would be the perfect time to make a layout, card, or altered art  item for this challenge at  Use it Tuesday.
  Just remember to list what items you used from your stash.

For an added challenge try to make the whole project from your stash like I did

To get this project jump started I poured out my scrap pieces on to my bed and paired up a couple of piece based on colors in my photos

I sort and organize my paper by color, so it's easy to see what I have. 

I use the cropper hopper system and divide the selves into section.  One for 12x12, 8.5x11 and cut/scrap

to create the base I used larger scraps of paper and cobbled it together.  The holes in the pink will be covered by photos so no one knows they are there but me ( and you now)

Finished layout. 

 To pull  the top and bottom papers together I used some green stickles ( first bottle I ever bought about 4 yrs ago) to accent the edges on the top and highlight the dots on the bottom.  Then  I hid the connection of the two sheets with  the middle border.

If you look back at the stack of pink paper on my bed you'll see this cute scalloped edge sitting near the top.  It's a leftover piece from a project a while ago that I rubbed with super old CTMH chalk and highlighted with more green stickels.

The green grass is plastic that I up cycled from a take home sushi box. 

last little bit is some hand me down paper flowers that I got from my wonderful Aunt Diane.  They were in very dusty bottles when I got them so they have been sitting for a while.  Also got the sticker from my Aunt.

 I punched the centers to match the center border and throw on some more stickles.  The brads are some of my original collection.  Not sure how long they've been hanging out in my storage container

Ribbon and Lace with a hint of Pink

This weeks challenge at Lasting Memories is to use ribbon and lace with a hint of Pink.

  I must say that this is my favorite LO in a long while.  I started out the whole process on Tuesday when I created the background page ( see picture below LO).  I can almost here you saying "you made your background paper?"  Well I did and I'll let you in on a little secret.  If you're not in a rush and have time to let modge podge dry.  You too can make this awesome background with a little bit of old news paper, modge podge and glitter.  I used a piece of yucky green card stock so ugly that covering it completely was the only options.  Covered it in a layer of Modge podge and covered with rough torn newspaper.  I covered each piece with more podge so that I could layer pieces of paper.  Then I topped the whole thing with white glitter to mutt the newsprint.  Let it dry over night and dream of all the possibilities.  By the time I had the youngest to preschool on Wednesday I had it all figured out.

I was inspired to create this background by the seriously creative September challenge- TexTure

which is to create a project that includes book print/text pattern and at least one textural or dimensional ( non paper) element. 

I only used tiny bits of ribbon at the bottom of the Lo on the Adore tag.

The lace I raided from my daughters sewing supplies and stitched it onto the heart that I cut (10.5 inches Gypsy wandering).  yet another piece of unloved pink card stock.  It had some funky swirls that you can't even see after the lace was stitched.  I'm trying to use up my neverending stash of paper.  I've inherited a ton of paper from my husbands aunt and probably will get more from my MIL.  Some of it's not my style so I'm getting creative.  The bits of pink and brown paper, heart circles and adore tag are piece from a card kit that I got years ago and never used till now.  I have a large stash of embellishments I'm trying to work through too, so that makes up the remainder of the chip board pieces

All the frames and blue pieces of chip board are from a pack I bought for the clearance section at Ben Franklin back in 2008. I know cause I used up the last of my Christmas gift card on it

Last little bit I promise.  Sorry I've been so long winded, but like I said I really like this layout.

Sketch challenge at lasting memories

This week we're going with a sketch challenge.

If you're not the girly girl scrapper and want to replace the flowers with another element feel free to do so.

I on the other hand have three girls and a little boy that sometimes wears his sisters clothes so I'm using the sketch as is

The flowers are a combination of silk, paper and ribbon.

The background paper was given to me by my husbands Aunt last year and who knows how long she had it.  The rest of the papers are all from my stash too.  I have a bit of a paper problem and have paper in almost every color except for orange.  Glad I held onto the circle cast offs.  The stickers are reminisce Camping series that I picked up after a girl scout camp out two years ago and never used.  The newest item on the LO is the bling I bought last fall at Joann's on Black Friday.

I mounted the stickers on a scrap of dark brown card stock.  Except for the fire  and title which I did on green since the stickers were already brown.  Put a pop dot behind it for some lift.

It's in the movies at lasting memories

This weeks challenge at Lasting Memories we are going to the movies.
 So use something from your favorite movie

  I really struggled with this one as I don't have a favorite go to movie and I'm not really good with movie quotes either.  Which is super surprising because I'm married to "Mr. Movie Quote".  I kid you not.  My husband's best friend Leonard made a board game featuring movie quotes and trivia.  It's a rather elaborate game and makes me feel very inadequate because I usually have no clue.

I did know that with the bounty of recent movies starring archers that I could fake something for sure.

Besides this weeks optional sketch by Ashley Horton scream bulls eye to me and I have the perfect pictures of my daughter at archery club.

   I was thinking I might go Hunger Games even though I hadn't seen the movie or maybe Snow white and the Hunts man.  Maybe I could stretch the journaling somehow to talk about how she was the only girl in class, before the Hunger Games made archery cool, but I still couldn't come up with a good title.  My husband suggested the line "oh merry men" from shriek and so it stuck because she was in a class full of men (actually middle school boys)

So without further ado here's my layout

I stuck with the classic Errol Flynn Robin Hood colors  for the Layout and added multiple layered circle to mimic the target

I kept the embellishments to a couple paper fletchings and strand of ribbon to draw the eye into

 my daughter taking aim

And of course the journaling

"Ashley throughly enjoyed archery even though she was the only girl in her class.

Here she is looking rather Robin Hoodish in all green, tights and boot"

Giving tree at childs play



Time for our 2nd  challenge for the month. Today we're reading from the classic book, the Giving Tree, by Shel Silerstein!

Here's my take on the challenge

Lasting memories DT lift off

Lasting memories wants to  see what inspires you from our layouts.  Use any one of the DT's layouts to create an original layout.  You can key into colors, number of photos, theme, layout pattern, really anything goes.  Just remember to mention who you are lifting from and what elements from the layout you are using as inspiration.

So here's a super simple layout I did before heading out for another round of camping:

I punched different sized circles in yellow and green and attached them in the center of the circles on the background paper.  So circles are a possibility and so is yellow and green

I cut out the silhouette of my son on the airplane and popped him up on foam dots.

throw in a little rick rack ribbon and tried to give it a more masculine feel by attaching it with staples.

So ribbon and staples are also fair game if you decide to lift my layout.

Last little bit of fun is the over sized glitter letters and extended title.

So have fun and add a little sparkle to your layout.

I wish I could get the sparkle to show more, but it was dark by the time I got the van unpacked and indoor photos aren't so good

What does September mean for you?

Back to school? Back to work?

For me this September marks the last year I'll have a preschooler in the house.  Exciting and sad all at the same time.  I can't wait for preschool to start so I can have some kid free time. 

Well at least for 2 hours three days a week.

Along with telling us what September means to you the true love ladies want you to go on a field trip

  out of your scrap space to  find some new supplies.

Something different or unusual

 office supplies, kitchen supplies, workshop supplies?

Your little one's stash?

So get out. Way out and find some new ways to use some regular stuff.

I rotated this wonderful sketch by Heather and switched the cogs for school supplies

For my different items I used plastic Bingo chips and Duct tape.

The bingo chips add  a bit of dimension and pops of red

To make it easier to cut the duct tape I adhered it to a scrap of card stock then cut the arrow shapes
