you amaze me

Have you ever had to stage a photo to get a story told?
I did only because I wasn't thinking fast enough on the morning of Dec13th.

My daughter Jessica did one of her funky hair dos
Here's what transpired that morning

Me: aren't you worried the kids at school are going to make of you
Jessica:  It's okay, I don't care.
If they do it just means they are insecure of their self image.

I was so wowed by my 11yr old that I posted on Facebook and everyone wanted to see the picture of your hair.  Silly me didn't snap a picture so I had to wait for Jessica to get home from school.  Of course by the time she hit the door she had started to pull out the hair ties
Totally had to stage the photo to capture the story.

So glad I did, because I want her to know that she has
always been self confident and beautiful
I used a new sheet of black board card stock.  So in love
the rest is from my stash.  Using up some color vibe paper from my CM collection

fussy cut the flowers from PP and used matching die cuts too.

added a little bling and sequence

Santa Claus is coming to Lasting Memories

This weeks challenge is Santa Claus is coming to lasting memories.
I wish I had a layout to share, but have been struggling to get in the holiday spirit.
Our family can't wait for the start of a new year and a fresh start, so see you next year with a new layout and some inspiration

I'm charmed at lasting memories

I truly am charmed.  If you look closely at the oval charm there is a photo of me in it.  I cut the photo, put it in the charm and did a layer of liquid glass over it.  So there you go I am charmed. However I think the interpretation of the challenge at lasting memories is something slightly different.  You can do a LO of your charmed life but we also want you to add a real charm to your layout

I was inspired by two different challenges for this layout.
I used the sketch from CS 257

I also  played bingo with shopping our stash

I did brads, bling and button

The oval frame was pewter, but I covered it with a silver paint pen so it would go better with the pearl brads

I deviated from the sketch and added a second photo as I have no journaling for this layout other then the chipboard tabs.  I'm not sure how old I am in these photos, but do know it was taken in the base housing complex in Wiesbaden Germany.  Probably late 1973 or early1974

Hope you'll share your charm with us at lasting memories

Viva Cinco de Mayo, Feliz Cumpleaños y Feliz Navidad

Viva Cinco de Mayo, Feliz Cumpleaños y Feliz Navidad
So do I have you wondering what this weeks challenge is over at lasting memories?
I can give you a hint that all my Spanish references are related by color.
This week we are asking you to crate a layout using Red, White and Green.

I like winter and the fresh crisp air after a snow storm
the peace and stillness that follows said storm.
I am however not a Christmassy person.
I don't go all out decorating, making card or even buying gifts.
Also I've scrapped all of my Christmas' past
so this challenge is going to be just that a challenge to see what I can create without doing a Christmas layout.

Here's what I came up with just using Red, White and Green

My daughter Jessica is a May baby, so for her 3rd birthday we did a Cinco de Mayo party.
Soft tacos, piñatas and cake.
(Didn't think the kids would eat Flan and I'm not sure how to do fried ice cream)

Just because it's not a Christmas layout didn't mean I'd skip using some embellishments from a few holiday packs siting in my stash.  The Epoxy frame/tag is from one and the star brads are from another, both of which I picked up post Christmas clearance years ago.

Then I mixed in some stars and rhinestones to carry the color scheme and there you have it a layout using Red, White and Green and not Christmas.

I hope you'll share your Red, White and Green with us.  Christmas or not

snowflakes and snowballs at lasting memories

This week at lasting memories we are tossing ourselves into December
with a few well flung snowballs and a sprinkling of snowflakes.
This weeks challenge is calling for a flurry of snow flakes and /or snowballs on your layout.

If you live in less frosty regions you can always scrap some of your snowflake ornaments or even the paper snowflakes the kids make at school.  I was tempted to do just that as we don't get a lot of snow in Eugene, Oregon. But we do go up to the snow in the cascade range.

Here are some more of our spring break photos from  March 2012
I used spring colors for my layout as it was our spring vacation, but gave it a winter vibe by cutting the knit flower embellishment into a snowflake.  I also used a little bit of liquid glass and glitter on the buttons for the snowball feel and some more on the snowflake to and some extra shimmer.

The knit frame, buttons and snowflake/flower are all die cuts that have been in my stash for ever.

I just cut into the flower petals to make it look like a snowflake.  Love how it turned out

Hope you'll join us for some winter fun with snowflakes and snowballs

Christmas Traditions at lasting memories

Today's challenge at lasting memories is all about Christmas traditions.

We don't have any hard and fast traditions in our house.
We do however always give practical gift such as socks and underwear.
Last year we went big and gave the girls a new floor and bedding.

This layout is 100% stash.
I used a combination of Christmas ornament paper scrap with cut up CM
Christmas pages that I received at my consultants open house last year.
Also through in some epoxy embellishments, old alpha stickers, ribbon and not so old but still from my stash rhinestone swirls

I was inspired by Allison Davis sketch
I changed it a bit to add the long journal card that I had as well as moved the title location

Sorry the photos are funky.
I took it with the I pad as the camera went hiking with the middle daughter

Hope you'll share your tradition with us
2 more pages done, in the single digits now.

Anything but snow at lasting memories

Good morning. Hope you'll be able to join us this week. Last week was a little quiet and we think we scared some away with our challenge. There was a bit of discussion among the team as to why no one joined us.  The general consensus was a three way tie-  busy month with lots of holiday prep, fear of showing your creative mess of a space and then just general disinterest in scrapping about the place you scrap in.
This week it's an easy one ..
Anything But Snow
We're looking for anything, absolutely anything on your LO's except snow.
Easy, for me I went with spring and did an Easter layout
both sides together and all from my stash, so two more down

Creative space at lasting memories-updated 11/11

Updated layout photos at the end of this post

This weeks challenge at lasting memories is to showcase your creative space in a layout.
I've done this before right after my wonderful husband surprised me with more shelves above my scrapping desk.  Well my space has changed a little as I found an island/desk with a flip top at my local St. Vincent de Paul thrift store that I stand and scrap at.
As I write this I'm waiting on photos from walgreens as I didn't have prints of my newest desk. So I'll share some photos of my area now and then post my layout on Monday.  Fingers crossed as it is a no school day(veterans day) and I have promised to take the oldest bra and underwear shopping

this is the view of my scrap area from on top of my bed.
My space runs the length of our bed room wall

this is the island/ desk I found at the thrift store

I hope you'll share your  creative space layout with us at lasting memories

Update starts here:
So here's the layout I did with the pictures of my scrap space

I used the art booking cartridge to cut the frames and the stamps from the set to do the journal lines and the scrappy life.  I covered the word My with pink "scrappy" label

Mirror image at lasting memories

Holy late.  I was supposed to have this post up this past Sunday, but it's now Friday night and I'm just getting to it.  I've had a couple of busy weeks capped with girl scout events on the weekends.  Thankfully the only thing on my plate this weekend is laying peel and stick vinyl floor in the oldest bedroom.  No more freeze my booty off in the lake.  Yup I was in the lake on the Oregon coast on purpose two weekends ago.  Water temp 63degrees, no wet suit

Okay so this challenge is rather open to interpretation.  It can be a photo of you in the mirror or a reflection on water or even a layout that is symmetrical on both sides of the page.
That's kind of what I went for.
This layout is 99% from my stash.
The arrows are chipboard from the art booking kit that I ordered from close to my heart last week.
I've been drooling over Kim's projects lately and finally caved in and broke my no new stuff till I've finished 50 layouts form my stash.
close up of journaling
I covered the arrow and the circles with washi

I used the sketch from inspired blueprints for some inspiration on this layout.
36 of 50 almost there

Last Day

I'm finally starting to try and play along with more of my favorite sites.  Need to amp up the creative mojo now that the weather has turned so dark and gloomy her in the Willamette Valley

I know this sketch challenge for Creative Scrapper is closed
but here's my take on 253

I flipped it to suit my photos
I had a lot of fun with this LO and am pleased with how it turned out.

I played around with some Amy tangerine stickers and paper that I picked up recently.
I know I've been bad, but not that bad.  I found them all at Big lots for super cheap.
I even customized some of the stickers by fussy cutting them.
I got the camera and expand your horizons from one sticker, so being thrifty again.
Just can't count this Layout as a Stash busting layout.

Journaling at lasting memories

This weeks challenge at lasting memories is to Journal, Journal, Journal

Don't worry about the number of times I said Journal in the first line.  You don't have to write a novel for this challenge.  My journal sections are rather small
Even though my class is officially over at  Big Picture I'm combining my DT layout with the class/ challenge.  If you're a class member then you've already seen this layout posted on the gallery and if not here's my two takes on the journal challenge

For the left brain challenge we are to write only on a pre-designed journaling card that is then incorporate into the design of the layout

As you can see I grab an all time favorite tag from a colobox journal pad.
I actually used the tag as my starting point to pull together the colors of the layout as well as the embellishments.  I like how the journal tag gave me the freedom to pull random pictures from mother's day weekend and make it all come together as I got to list my favorite things about the weekend.

For the right brain challenge we had to finish the layout and then add a handwritten story.  with the added challenge that everything must be adhered to the layout, so that you couldn't move the elements to make room for the journaling

So glad for the right brain challenge because I only had two photos from my daughters birthday.  The one with her and the cake and the other is of her sister frosting the cake.  So instead of a lame two photo layout I was able to combine two birthdays and united them with the journaling about my daughters budding culinary skills.  I did adhere all the elements as I built the layout and decided that the background was too busy to journal on directly so I used one of the paper tiles to write on.  No do overs but I did have to shorten the journaling and use numbers instead of spelling it all out
