Crafting soon?

I just got the island in the kitchen installed and am plugging away at unpacking.  Still have yet to set up my scrap area but hope to soon.  I've been following all the activity on my favorite blogs and feeling the need to get crafty with paper for a change.  So tired of painting and unpacking

Alpha Wars at lasting memories

Lasting Memories #180 'Alpha Wars'

Wow, what a whirlwind month Feb was.  I've been crazy busy with the challenges I selected last month along with Girl scout cookie season in full swing.  Now the next of life's adventures is about to start.  We have plans for adding a master bedroom to my husbands childhood home followed by a move into the old farm house this summer.  So it is with heavy heart that I'm stepping down for Lasting Memories DT.
I still plan on playing along when time allows, but will be sitting out the Alpha wars

This month challenge Hostess is Claire. And she has some pretty cool challenges of fun to come here This month's prize pack is donated by Claire herself ..

 Claire is challenging us to:
"use as many different alpha stickers (or die cuts) as possible (2+ alphas)"

Food based guilty pleasures at lasting memories

If you're here for A2Z blog hop click Here

We're down to our last challenge of February. You have till Friday at 9pm EST to get your entries in! We'll be contacting a GDT on Saturday afternoon to join us for the month of March and we'll be announcing the winner of our gift certificate as well. Get those entries in.
I have the last challenge for February.  Originally it was called cookie time- feature making, baking or eating or in my case selling Girl scout cookies.  Anyway the DT was struggling with what to do so we changed it to food based guilty pleasures
"Food/Beverage .. Guilty Pleasures"
What does this mean? Here's what I have to say:
"You know we all have those guilty little pleasures. Our favorite comfort food. This time of year it Girl Scout tagalong cookies for me. So for this week we are asking you to share your guilty pleasures with us- food based only please

I was inspired by creative scrapper sketch 262
I used a box of my favorite tagalong girl scout cookies and cut it into chevrons.
for the smaller chevrons I substituted wooden trefoils.

I scored this wooden 4inch trefoil from a give away at our local girl scout council office
I actually have several hundred  of them that we'll use at day camp as name tags
and then some will go to our older girl camporee for multi media craft projects

close up of my cookie box chevrons
I varied for the sketch in that I didn't use three pictures,
but instead documented the girls efforts at booth sales.
Our troop of 28 girls is close to 5300 boxes of cookies sold

If you're joining me here first please make sure to see the full hop list below
Thanks for stopping by

This  entire layout was made using paper cottage 6x6 pad.
I started by cutting two piece of the mustard yellow paper in half to create 2 - 3x 12 strips.
I did the same with the lace paper but at 1.5 inches and the fussy cut along the scallop.
The center base is two pieces of the blue printed paper.  I hid the seam with the placement of my photo and paper layers.  The solid brown and pink are card stock from my stash, but match well enough.  I also used a piece of dotted paper from the pad as well as fussy cut the printed banners and journal tags from another sheet. The blue longer banner is also from the paper cottage pad mounted on cream cardstock to make it stand out .
Basic Grey Paper Cottage 6x6 Paper Pad

The cluster of embellishments are a combo of more paper from the pad that I fussy cut.
The larger flowers I covered with liquid glass and stuck a hero arts red hue dot into the mostly dried glass.  The blue flowers were also fussy cut from the same page as the red and have hero arts red metallic décor stuck to their centers.  I then scattered the remaining hue drops among the twine

Love is in the air at lasting memories updated 2/17

We are on our 3rd challenge of February, which is love is in the air. For this challenge you need to use the word love along with something with wings on your layout.
( Birds, Butterflies, Cupid...you get the idea)
Now for the fun part
At the end of Feb we'll be choosing a GDT to join us for March
 AND
one lucky person will win a $10 gift certificate from A2Z scrapbooking.
One entry PER challenge please - but each challenge entry earns you another chance to win.
We're loving this new change at LM as it gives you more time to play along.

I'll be playing along soon. I'm swamped with this weeks start of Girl Scout cookie season
Till than please check out what the other DT have got for inspiration

Yeah I got my layout done.  Just a little late due to silly Girl Scout cookies.  Who said it'd be okay to snow the weekend before delivery.  Messed up the whole schedule, but I was finally able to create my love layout.
My husbands wonderful Aunt Diane has been taking the girls on special dates for a few years now.  Here's Danielle's date with Diane from July of 2012

Journal- "Danielle you are very much loved by Aunt Diane.
She has taken each one of you girls on a special date"

I used up this card kit from my stash for inspiration.
So glad I did as I'm not much of a card maker and don't have the instructions to put the card together.
The flair and butterflies are from my stash too.
I misted- too orange ,chalked- too pink, and inked- too red but muted with black
to get the two butterflies to my liking.
of course I had to add some bling too.

I'm entering this layout in S.W.A.T drill #26
and
let's capture our memories #58- rotated the sketch

Valentine color challenge at lasting memories

Valentine's day is this Friday and I've been busy helping two of the four kids with Valentines for their classes.  We've put a good dent into my stash of Pink and Red paper , but I still had plenty for this challenge .  So what is the Lasting memories challenge this weeks?  Super easy.  Just use traditional Valentines colors.
Pink and/or Red with some white, black or kraft.

Here's my inspiration for you

I intended to use nothing but pink, but got a little off track and threw in some green,
because the ribbon slide sticker had some green in it

.
Funny how product can direct your layout choices, just one little sticker.
I liked the little bit of green bling in the flower center and wanted to have more.
Of course it looked weird with just specks of green bling
so out came the acetate flowers and swirls and of course more bling

I even covered up the original flower, because the pink was so in your face.
That's probably why I've had it in my stash for so long.

We would love for you to join us with a Valentine colored layout
and you can cheat a little like me if you need to

Groundhogs day at lasting memories

In the grand fashion of groundhogs day, we here at lasting memories are trying to predict the return of spring.  Did you see your crafty shadow today? Will we be in for an early spring or more of the same brutal cold?  This week’s challenge is to create either a Spring or Winter Layout.
I vote spring, so glad to finally break out of the fog that has had it's grip on the valley for too long.
Even though I'm wishing for more spring like weather my layout for this challenge is a twist of both spring and winter.  Here's one more layout from our spring break trip last year up to the property/cabin.  March 2013 and we still had two feet of snow on the ground, not this year.
Willamette ski resort closed it's doors for the season last weekend and it looks like we are in for another dry summer.

The paper is a CM that I got as a gift for attending a crop this past June. I love the bright fresh colors on the background and the pink paper under the title has a faint floral pattern to it so it definitely has a spring feel to it as far as color goes, but the photos scream winter.

Close up of my brother- in -law after having to retrieve the shovel from the snow fort so he could get his truck free from the snow bank he high centered on

Just a hint of floral under the title.
I cut the title with gypsy wondering font welded on the gypsy and then inked around the edges to give it a spring glow.

So what do you predict? spring or winter? We can't wait to see.

Lasting memories one word resolution

This is Darcy's last challenge for the month of January and she has challenged us to a
"One Word Resolution"
All you have to do is think of one word that describes something you want to try to do this year.

I've finally figured out I'm not a resolution type of girl or even interested in the one little word movement that seems so prevalent in the scrapping community.  I've been thinking about it for a while now and am no closer to a layout then the day Darcy issued the challenge.

So I'm going to skip this one and jump ahead to next months challenges that I'm hosting, so see you back here next week.

Snowmen at lasting memories

This week Darcy has challenged us to use "Snowmen" on our layouts at lasting memories.
I'm kind of stretching the challenge this week as we don't normally get snow here in the Williamette valley.  We had some this winter though, but no snowmen.  The snow was so dry it won't form into decent balls and by the time it started melting and such the kids had had enough fun in the snow.
Longest extra week off from school ever.
Anyway I digress from my current layout.  This is another one from our trip to the cabin last spring break.  I used some spring-ish colors on the layout to convey that it was spring time and I don't have any snowmen on the layout, just my guy and the snow.  Get it Snow + man.

I did try building a snowman with circles, but opted to go with just the one.

This layout is also from my stash so 3 out of 50
Oh well, hope I inspired you to think outside the box a little.
Please join our snowy fun at lasting memories

DT scraplift

This weeks challenge at lasting memories  is actually a double Scraplift challenge. Each of us, over the last week, chose a fellow DT members LO to scraplift and now it's your turn. Which of our LO's would you like to scraplift?

I picked this cute layout by Kimberly Clark at Paper Munch page 4 for Zoe

which she based on the following sketch

Here's my take on Kim's Layout

I went with a very similar color scheme and also used circle pp
as well as did some machine sewing (and just like Kim's it's a little off)

I however stayed a little truer to the original sketch by using 3 pictures and a banner with picture instead of a title.  I also used the tags.

on some of the circles I put themed stickers from a girl scout sleepover pack.

Now WHO will you scraplift?
Go to Lasting Memories!  Take a peak.  Be inspired.

I'm also "Restarting" my 50 Layout challenge using my stash for 2014.
This entire layout is from stash so 2 out of 50.  Off to a good start

sketch challenge and favorite embellishment at lasting memories.

To kick off the New Year, we have a new challenge for you.
All you have to do is use this sketch and add your favorite embellishment.

I'm so super late with this challenge as it closes tomorrow, sorry but here you go

I have been trying to use more washi tape, but my go to embellishment is rhinestones

Christmas

I originally started this layout for the here comes Santa challenge at lasting memories, but just ran out of time.  We have been cruising ahead on the demolition phase of the upper floor at the farm house and every free moment is spent over there pulling nails out of the fir tongue  and grove planking to get to the bare studs. Happy to say that we are all most done with the pulling apart now to put it back together in a way that is more up to date and practical.  I'll share pictures soon.  In the mean time here's my finished layout.
I used a special pack of CM Christmas paper that I got a few years back.  I like the muted Christmas tones as they worked well with my older pictures.  This is of our 1st Christmas in Hawaii (1981).  Santa and Christmas trees seemed so out of place in the nice 70 degree weather.

I cut the tree from artbooking cartridge by aligning the image so it hung over the cutting edge. This allowed me to pop up the detail cuts to give the tree some added dimension as well as inked all the edges with chalk ink. Sprinkled in some rhinestones and tree is decorated.

me and my brother with Santa.

The lasting memories Dt is retrying the 50 layout from stash challenge this year.  I almost got done with the challenge before breaking don and buying some scrappy supplies.
I treated myself to random odds and ends that I want to try like: clothes pins, stick pin, shaped wire clips, perfect pearls along with a random assortment of embellishments.  I also picked up two pads of paper that will be used for my friends baby album.

However this layout is entirely from stash so 1 of 50 here I come
