July sketch-n-scrap

I used the upper right throwback sketch for my layout of my son helping at the River Road/ Santa Clara library book sale.  I used the last of my CM season collection as the pink played up the sweet little girl's dress.

The ScraproomJune and July challenges

I've been trying to squeeze in scrapping time when I can get it this summer.  This past Sunday, I helped my son with a bottle drive for his Eagle project and had to sit at a drop-off location for three hours, so I brought along some supplies.

I used the July freaky fast formula for this Service project page
I lined up the 5x7 and the 3x6 to give the illusion of a larger sheet of paper and covered the bottom with the tag I punched from the 2.5x 4.5 piece

This next one is from the June  Jumpstart sketch

I cut the blue title from a photo mat and left the chunk with the black letters together as I worried they wouldn't stand out on the background paper.

Egg Hunt #758

Lasting Memories #758 - Showcase your favorite holiday - Christmas in July, the 4th of July, or any other holiday as your theme.  I'm still working on my son's scout album, of the holidays they do as a troop, my favorite is the  Easter Egg Hunt.  We also do a fun trunk or treat for Halloween, a troop Thanksgiving dinner, and a holiday gift exchange.

For this layout, I'm excited to use the papers I picked up while thrifting (5cents a page).  I'm still working through my stash, but for around a dollar, I added a few new-to-me cute items.

The journaling is hard to read in the photo but it reflects that this is their second annual egg hunt and that the boy spent a few meetings stuffing hundreds of eggs

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you share your favorite holiday with Lasting memories

Stay wild

For my son’s troops adventure at Elevate Bouldering Gym I used Stacy’s tic tac toe challenge and Rochelle’s sketch challenge

I used the middle column of metal (brads) punched tags and world stickers

Tree Pick Up

I’m stuck inside avoiding the sun as my antibiotics make me sensitive to sunlight, so I got another layout done.  The online group I’m in was challenging to create a cut out frame to save paper.  I didn’t flip the cut out to the reverse side as I wanted to use the same print but added dimension with the grey matte.  The paper and stickers are CM but from different collections but work well together.  I added a squiggle of green glitter glue to all the trees for a little sparkle.

Hope you like it and thanks for stopping by

Spring Induction

I just got my hands on the Pacific scenes paper from Creative Memories and put together this layout for Eric's scout album.

I also did a little mix and matching from other collections.  The tag is from Leave Nothing Behind, and the journal box is from Happy Camper

In the cluster, the circle had a whale breaching in front of a mountain, but I covered it with the bear so that I could have just the mountains

I think I might have to grab the Mountain science too

Lasting memories- Size it up

I'm super excited to have got another layout done this rainy afternoon.  I have finally finished my son's scout album for 2023 with this page.  I challenged myself to follow the lasting memories size it up challenge

Here are some general guidelines:
• Rectangular strips can be border punched, turned into banners or tags.
• Larger rectangles, circles or squares should be left whole.
• If you'd like to do a double page, use all of the required pieces on one page and then duplicate only those you want on the 2nd page.
• Photos may be matted with additional paper.
• Add your choice of embellishments, titles, journaling, etc.
• You can use scraps or cut pieces out of whole sheets of paper.

LM #755 - Use the following sizes of papers on your layout.
3 - 5" squares
3 - 1.5 x 5 strips
3 - 2" circles

I didn't alter any of the square or strips but did tuck two of my circles.  The Merry Christmas to hide the partial "merry" on the bottom side as it was a printed paper with the message repeated over and over.  The other circle is missing a small chunk so I stuck it under the edge of the photo to hide it.

Hope you like it and can play along with Lasting Memories too

Switzerland

Got some rain going off and on so I decided to spend the afternoon inside.

My son's troop went to summer camp in Switzerland and I have already created several pocket pages to document the trip but I also like to have a single page for his scout year album.

I created this layout using the June 1st challenge from Sketches in Thyme and I'm also combining it with a  Creative MemoriesVIP group on FB that has us using hearts on our layout.

For the CM challenge we have to create with mostly CM materials.
I used 2020 Reflections Designer patterned paper and CM heart punch in 1.25 and 1.5 inches.
Only the grey base is not CM

LM,#752- Woodworking

So excited to be able to sneak in a last-minute layout for Lasting Memories Tic -tac-toe challenge #752
I used the center row of chipboard, circle, and rhinestones.  For the last retreat I attended, I only took scraps to use in building my layouts.  I've had these circles in my stash for a while and am glad to have been able to use them. I also used a stamp to create the flourishes and fussy cut them out. I thought about using my chip board for this, but it's too thick to cut that intricately.  Instead, I backed some of the circles with chipboard to give them dimension. Lastly, I  added a few rhinestones for some color.

Tree Life

This past weekend I attend a retreat and went old school.  Just paper, embellishment and tools on hand.  I challenged my self to creating layouts with just scraps and ephemera not in kits.  Other than the Boy Scout specific paper.  I’ve had those pads in my collection since my son’s Cub Scout years and now he’s working on his Eagle Project.  Actually this whole weekend was dedicated to nothing but scout layouts. I’m almost up to 2024 and got the pocket pages done for the Switzerland trip.
No challenges or sketches on this one.  Thanks for stopping by to take a look.

Sketch and scrap

.
It's Sketch-n-scrap's 13th Birthday, and I'm playing with the second challenge.

I used 4 photos as I cropped them smaller than the sketch.

Good times

So excited to have my first layout done with just scraps. I used the sketch from  April Sketch and Scrap challenge.

Love how it turned out.  Even managed to break out my stamps.  Thanks for stopping by.

Using scraps

It’s been a while since I last shared and I’ll be honest scraping hasn’t been on the radar with the start of spring gardening.  I’ve been in major clean up mode as we have been culling the random remains of out buildings, farm implements and such.  So in the endeavor to clear things out I’ve only brought scraps and ephemera not in kits to the retreat.

LM#748

I'm back with my last guest layout for Lasting Memories.
I've enjoyed creating with the sketch challenges this month.

For this sketch, I added an extra base layer as the light blue print didn't have enough contrast from the background paper to really pop.  I also replaced the shapes on the sides with banners and one photo for a mat that played up the actions of our kitties (Nova and Nebula)

Another adaptation is this "cute" speech bubble instead of the tab behind the photo.

Finally, this layout wouldn't be complete without this adorable mouse that I fussy cut from another photo mat.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look, and remember to share your creation with us at Lasting Memories

April tic-tac-toe and sketch challenge

I'm playing along with Stacey's tic-tac-toe challenge using the right-hand column:
mixed title, brads, and ink.  I also used Rochelle's sketch challenge for April

I replaced the circles in the layout with large fussy cut flowers, which I highlighted with a brown pen to get the details to pop more.  I also inked the edges of the photo mats

I didn't do any journaling as I don't know what to say.  I took my mom for a trip to the coast before she left for home, and we had a fight.  I might do a hidden card with how I felt tucked away but for now the layout is done

Friday, April 25, 2025

I posted this layout at the Sketches in Thyme Facebook group and neglected to share it with you.

I used the sketch as a jumping-off point as I flipped the photo placements off the 3x3's and used one less photo overall.  The large flowers are fussy cut from paper in the beach collection I have.  I'm trying to us all of my stash before I buy anything.  Hard to do with so many cute summer lines coming out.

I'm not one to use titles often, but did include a die-cut with Beach Day on it as it captures the essence of the graduation trip to Yachats

LM #747

I took a small break between making guest design layouts for Lasting Memories to do some Spring Break traveling.  I drove to San Diego from Junction City, Oregon, to pick up my middle daughter.  We spent time at Imperial Beach, Balboa Park,  Santa Monica Pier, Golden Gate Bridge, and the Redwoods.  I'll have to make a post soon to share some of the photos, but now that I'm back, I have to crank out this sketch and the next.

My daughter, Danielle, stayed true to herself with a casual graduation outfit, so I went big on everything as I didn't want to crop out a single detail. Not even her tired old converse.

I colored over the silver lettering on "Graduation day" to keep with the color scheme

The quote and stars are cut from two different borders as I wanted only bits of each to tie everything together

The overall layout is still based on the sketch, just bigger. As always, you can use the sketch as is, or it can be flipped, rotated, or even stretched into a two-page spread if you want.

LM#746

Welcome back for another sketch challenge with lasting memories.  This time around we are doing a single-page layout.  It can be flipped, rotated, or even stretched into a two-page spread if you want.  I kept the basic layout idea but altered the photo sizes.  Since I print almost all my photos as 4X6 I knew I had to go larger if I wanted the whole Trailhead sign to show.

My embellishments had to be adjusted to work with the larger photos.  Smaller clusters in slightly different locations but that's the great thing about sketches, they are a starting point and don't have to be replicated exactly.  I also moved my journal area to create a diagonal flow across my layout.

LM#745

I'm back with my second sketch challenge for Lasting Memories

I didn't have enough photos of my son's family celebration or his friends' party, so I combined both events.  I did a few substitutions for pictures with just colored blocks of card stock, especially since I didn't have a 6x4 horizontal photo.

I picked the colors based on a stash of Creative Memories die-cut embellishments that I was gifted. These birthday-themed die-cuts work great with the photos and are not too hard to match with CM cardstock. The peacock blue block was bold and stood out too much before I framed it with freehand white inkwork.

I moved the journaling to the other page and added a die-cut cluster instead.  I backed the hollow circle with the same blue as the 6x4 block on the other page and popped the cake up with foam.    Also added rhinestones instead of a decorative edge to the shelf.

same layout configuration as the sketch minus two photos

LM#744-Lasting Memories sketch challenge

Hello all, I know it has been forever since I have shared anything with you all, lovely followers.  I'm happy to announce that I am guest designing for Lasting Memories this month.  We are doing a sketch challenge, one of my favorite challenges.
"Feel free to change the sketch up a little to fit your photos (use more or fewer photos, flip the sketch, only use one side, etc.) as long as we can see the original sketch in your layout."

I love that sketches provide inspiration.  I sometimes follow the sketch done to the exact placement and sometimes use it as a jumping-off point.  For this Alison Davis sketch from July 2020, I kept the basic background structure and the main photo layout but changed the cluster location on the left-hand side and added several smaller photos to the right along with my journaling.
