June S.I.D

Welcome to the June Challenge at Stick It Down.
This will be my last post for the Double page team

Have you ever really wanted to use a sketch but the background paper you are using won't work?
That's what happened to me.  I only had a single page of each of the patterns and the print is directional so rotating it isn't an option, as you can see below.

Instead of going with the "V"  I made diagonal stripes across the layout with the patterns mirroring each other

I made my photos smaller plus added an extra to both sides
to document our travel days to Victoria BC and back.

To make my title stand out and add texture I stitched over it

Victoria BC and a sneak peek

I have a sneak peek for you.  This little snippet will be for my final layout with Stick it Down in June.  I'll be stepping down from S.I.D. as I won't have time to commit to a design team this summer.  My daughter is graduating from high school and we have an epic trip planned for the summer.

Here is the sneak peek Victoria BC

1st day in Victoria- Japenese Garden
We stayed in a cute air bnb across the street from this amazing Japanese Garden.  In the evening there was a farmers market where we got fresh fruit and baklava for dessert our first night.

!st day- Fan Tan Alley
after the garden, we took the bus into downtown Victoria and spent some time checking out Chinatown

1st day- late-day bike ride
Rented bikes late in the day and biked up the coast for about 2hrs

day 2- High tea
Tea at the Empress Hotel.  Blue suede shoe tea was amazing and the treats were very tasty

I have a few  Royal British Museum photos still to turn into a layout

day 3- bike and beach
biked along the coastline to Oak Bay for the afternoon

Also, have some photos from the Art Museum to do as well but that's most of our trip to Canada

Sketches in Thyme 5/1/24

Finished the last of my photos from our trip to Canada using the May 1st sketch from Sketches in Thyme

I turned this sketch into a two page spread as well as added some extra photos and moved the journaling to the second page of the layout.  I tried to balance brown and green photos evenly between the pages.  I also added bits of paper in place of titles.  I typically don’t do a title

TSR May Jumpstart

I'm a little late for NSD.

Busy day yesterday celebrating my Seniors last Prom and my son's sixteen birthday party with six teens.  Better late than never.  I'm creating with the scrap room jumpstart sketch for May.

I used squares that are larger than the sketch so I used less of them. Still has the same overall layout which works well with my photos from the Royal BC Museum.  We popped in for a bit before heading to the Empresses for tea.  I was gifted the papers this past week and am excited to have been able to put them to use so quickly. I still have a few more photos from the trip that I hope to get done in the next few days.

Need to get them done before life gets even busier.  30 more school days left this year. Even less for my senior.  If the weather would warm up and dry out I might be able to get the yard and patio in order for the grad party.  Hope you enjoyed my take on the sketch

Concert Fun

The kids got to go to two concerts in 2023.  Journey in April and Star Catcher in July

I only have one very dark photo of the kids and my husband at the Journey concert but it's one more memory documented

The star catcher layout was fun to create with all of the rhinestones I stuck down

Summerween

My middle daughter Jessica missed Halloween 2022 due to her semester abroad so she made it up to her friends with a summerween celebration.  We pulled out the decorations and bought some watermelons for carving.

The design was a challenge at the retreat I attended in April.  I used some really old Creative Memories 8x8  Halloween paper, so it is pieced together in spots.  I also used some older embellishments to pull it all together.  The tiny circle punches are of the carved watermelons.

May SID

I know we are in the midst of spring but I'm still working my way through my son's scout photos and they just happen to be of his November campout.

I stretched the photos and added some extra thin banners to fill the gaps.
I used an embellishment cluster with a phrase in place of a title

Birhtday Boy

Can't believe this guy is sixteen, especially since I just got this layout of his 15th scraped.

Happy Birthday Eric

The entire layout is made with bits and pieces of birthday kits that I have mixed and matched.
 Love using up my stash

Hiking Layouts

Now that Spring is upon us and I need to get back to doing some training hikes for this summer's adventure here are some layouts I made of last year's hikes.  The following layouts were completed at a spring retreat at the beginning of the month.

Troop hikes- Spencer's Butte and Mt. Pishgah
The troop went on two training hikes similar in elevation gain to the ones they would be doing in Switzerland.

Eagle's Rest
I did this hike twice.  Once as a solo hike in the rain and then again with Danielle when the sun was out.

McDonald Research Forest -Corvalis
Danielle and I were enjoying some outdoor time while Jessica attended an event in Corvallis.

Iron Peak/ Cone Mountian
Beautiful wildflower hike with the City of Eugene.  Not sure I want to do more trips with EP&R

Fall Creek
This entire area burned in the Bedrock fire twelve days after this trip.

Divide Lake
Nothing better than getting a hike in with your adventure buddy

Vivian Lake
8-mile hike with the kids.

Wild Iris Ridge
Super hot, dry, and smokey hike in town.

I still have photos from the big trip to Strawberry Basin to scrap, but for now, enjoy.

April S.I.D.

This was so quick to put together and the sketch was a good pairing for the photos other than a few size adjustments. Also changed the banner location do to the larger photos.
Mixed and matched CM paper and stickers.  Glad to use open more of my stash

Nailed it

To document my husband shooting a nail into his fingers I’m using Rochelle’s April sketch. He is so lucky to have missed all the joints and has the smallest chip to the top of the bone on his ring finger two weeks before leaving for Switzerland.

I haven’t added any journaling yet as I want him to do it.

I used the bottom row from Stacy’s challenge 3 photos, chipboard and tag.
Also added enamel dot and might do some twine too.  I’m at a crop and didn’t bring all my supplies.

Sketch support

I really love Allison Davis sketches and this one was so fun I created a double page layout with it.  You can download the sketch for free here

To make my layout stretch across two pages I reversed the photo placement on the second page and changed the sizes to work with my subject.

The color palette was inspired by the baby dolls in the top left photo.  I thought it was a great twist on an otherwise masculine layout.  Added some sparkle embroidery floss sprinkled with snowflakes and rhinestones.

Left side is very similar to the sketch except for the double matting of the photos.

Close up of the floss.  Has a bit more shimmer than the photo

Right side- reverse of the left and different sized photos

The double matting made the photos really thick and not layer nicely so I cut into the photo so the all laid the same.  Hid my imperfections with the holly stickers.  Couple daps of Nuevo drops th pull in a bit more black.

Welcome to April Stick it Down Sketches

For my double page layout I used Pinkfresh "office Hours" collection as the elements go well with the event theme.  I changed the orientation of my two larger photos and mounted the square photos to hide the print on that side of the paper.  The alhpa stickers and the & are from photo play "Happy Glamper.  I love it when I can mix and match to use up product.

I'm close to finishing the scout photos for 2022 as these were from OA annual meeting in October.
The first night of the event is always themed and this year was Law & Arrow (Order).

CSM March sketch

I had some time at the high school state chess tournament that I was chaperoning and I got creative with the March sketch from Creative Scrapbook magazine.

I added a third photo to the photo mat as well as made a giant bowling pin to be my journal spot

I made a few other ones for DT assignments so I'll have a few more to show in a bit
