Playful pockets at Lasting memories

This weeks challenge is to add pockets to your layout.  I had a hard time coming up with a good pocket as I just used a photo sleeve pocket on the last layout and I didn't want to revisit the pocket I created to hold brochures and maps for my 15th anniversary trip.  So this is what I came up with using CM Halloween paper pack, home made texture paste and February sketch with a twist

I added a few more photos and left out the burst in favor of my journal pocket.
To create the pocket effect I fussy cut the photo of us dressed up and adhered it to the raised banner behind the photo, then added a few more foam dots to the journal tag to make my ragged faux pocket.

First attempt at making my own texture paste.
I couldn't wait for it to dry so I used a heat gun to set it, which caused my whole room to smell of warm baby powder.  I found a great D.I.Y video on you tube that uses one part talc powder, one part paint and half part glue.  I applied it over some hand cut chevrons that I peeled off after the paste dried.  I also tried splattering the paste on the layout.

Number it

This weeks challenge over at lasting memories is all about numbers.  Use numbers in your title, your journaling what ever.  You could even get creative and make an embellishment from extra numeral stickers.  It's up to you.  I went with numbers in my title, but you can also find them in my journaling
I journaled on the background page then misted with my two favorite colors, blue and green.

A few numbers, a little bit of ribbon, flowers and stickers for my title.

my husband asked why I was covering up the journaling so I stuck the photo in a clear sleeve so that you can lift it to see all the wonderful things that make me, me.

hope you'll join us for this challenge and a chance to win a great prize from Toni

Mail call on Sunday

I just checked my mailbox.
I know it's Sunday, but I was so busy yesterday that I never made it out to the box.

This is what I found waiting for me from Allison at
this card is so adorable wish I got a better pic,

and then there where these beauties

resolutions for 2013

I'm not going to make any resolutions this year, but rather set goals.
Last year I started off great and was running and working out, like I resolved to do and then I fell.
Literally,  I put my foot through a 6 inch gap in the boat dock.
Sunk my leg straight down to my thigh.
Thankfully I didn't break it but the sub dermal hematoma
was the size of a grapefruit and it's still a bit tender today if you press on the knot that's left just above the back of my knee.  So I thought it through and figured goals would be better as I could have short term and long term goals and maybe a few rewards thrown in too.

So here are my scrap goals for 2013
If your having a feeling of deja vu, your not crazy.
I did the base of this layout for UIT all about 2013
back in December before I really gave the whole resolutions/goals much thought

So this is what I added to the layout:
my goals- on matching paper from the original layout
thicker numbers and title
stickles- to hide the cuts and piecing for all the letters except "g"
I also added the sticker and paper cluster just behind the numbers

So far every layout I've done this year is from my stash.
5 weeks and going strong with my commitment to not buy more stuff.
I still have so much I want to try and found a great YouTube video for making my own texture paste, so I won't have to stray from my goals.

I have other goals to, but that's for another post

Hope you've been inspired and will join us for this weeks challenge

Bananarama

We're going bananas at Lasting memories this week.

No you don't have to use just bananas,
but let's see some fruit on those layouts

Here's what I did and if you look close you'll see a banana

I've had these awesome velum fruit stickers sitting in my stash for a while now, so what better way to use them up then pear pair them up with some photos of my troop trying their hand at cooking.
The paper I used was left over from a scrapbook project that we did with the girls.
Using our resources wisely and another page done for the troop album.
